The caregivers needing to be taking care of too

Sorry that I haven't made any blogs for a while. Being a caregiver to my husband and son, I never

really have the time to blog. For today's topic it's going to be the caregiver needing to be taking care

of  too.

Right now I have chronic back pain due to taking care of my husband and then going straight

to picking up my son. I know that I can't just depend on myself to just taking care of my family

and cleaning up my house, so I have to rely on family. Even though the in-laws coming over often, it

can be overwhelming and frustrating. Oh, and if any of my in-laws are reading this, don't get

offended by that. I love you guys and truly blessed and very grateful to have you guys come over

when we need you. In fact, I am truly blessed to my family, to friends, my church family,

and others who have helped us over the past two and a half years. Please feel free to call me or

message me on Facebook that you want to help out. I sometimes have a hard time giving Daniel

his stretches because my back is in pain or I can't pick things off the floor because it hurts to bend

over.

As a caregiver, we carry a heavy load. We see the pain and feel the pain of the person we are

caring for, but yet there is not much we can do about it. So my resolution this year is to take

care of myself and to give up my selfish needs and ask for help.

  1. This is always so tough for a caregiver to do. We often think we have to do it all and do it by ourselves. But that's not the case. Caregivers need respite time, just to be themselves. Often times that means rediscovering themselves because they have been so wrapped up on the person they have been caring for. Take care of yourself Beth!
